Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter. (Mark Twain)
We celebrated my husband’s birthday this week.
I had intended writing a blog that celebrated his fine qualities and many achievements, but it quickly became too long and too personal.
Then I thought of writing about how important birthdays are to everyone as a celebration of personal uniqueness and accomplishment… we are so glad that you are part of our lives. That started to sound like a cross between the worst pop psych and hallmark greeting cards.
Then I went looking for examples of great birthday celebrations in films and books. I could write about that for weeks… and may come back to it. But what would it have to do with my husband?
Then I remembered the most famous of all real birthday parties, and the shocking expression of a “secret” love made public, in the most public venue. The dress! The voice! What would we make of this to-day? Jackie had stayed home.
Here is one of my favourite scenes from “Some Like It Hot”.
Whatever the date, “Happy Birthday” to you too.
