A Way to Speak

Roger Ebert has died. I always listened to Siskel and Ebert doing their movie reviews together, and frequently visited his blog and the archived reviews.  Like Christopher Hitchens, he spent his last years dealing with catastrophic illness that destroyed his natural voice, and he died heroically.  Marshall McLuhan, the famous Canadian philosopher of communication theory suffered a stroke, which affected his ability to speak.

Thank you for continuing to visit, even when I am blogging less frequently.  We have been in a state of domestic chaos since starting to renovate the kitchen back in October. There is still a long way to go, but we hope to have all of the first floor restored to order in time for me to host book group in June (exactly eight weeks!) and to celebrate the summer birthdays.

“FIREFOX is running but not responding”… like my brain? If I shut off my laptop before closing Firefox, I always get this message. This afternoon it was particularly annoying.

I have a headache, a really bad headache.  There is a correlation between my headaches and low barometric pressure… this one is not going away anytime soon! Just listen to this forecast…  A series of low pressure systems is bringing heavy rainfall warnings. On Thursday, a stronger low will arrive from the southwest and combine with a colder airmass from the north, the national weather network reports. As a result, a large amount of rain is expected to change to ice pellets and freezing rain…

Once again we are trapped by the weather.  So the three large windows waiting in the garage for installation will probably not go in until next week.  Both yesterday and today were too windy and rainy.  So we are possibly looking at Monday, and this pushes back the finishing and interior repair for at least another week. And we haven’t even started the bathroom!

Too much information… only really boring people talk about the weather, their health, and personal inconveniences, especially when there are so many other topics of interest. But it is hard to ignore the elephant in the room.

What is happening in your part of the world?

Hi, Ellen – sorry to hear your renovation is not going smoothly, but then, they seldom do. When we bought our home in Hamilton (lo, these many years ago), we had to convert it from a triplex into a single-family (plus small apartment) in six weeks</i.. We did it, but I contracted it myself, full-time, and spent many, many hours each day, seven days a week chasing sub-contractors, overseeing friends, and working myself. Never again

We have some sunny weather on its way here to NS.. . .
