Plaisir d’amour

No one sings like this to-day!  Sigh…

When was romantic love replaced by lust, and vocal talent traded for the ability to gyrate suggestively to a very loud and repetitive background track?

Nana and Joan… we loved you!  And those who remember really miss you.

Je t’aimerai me répétait Sylvie.
L’eau coule encore.

The pleasure of love lasts only a moment
The pain of love lasts a lifetime.

I gave up everything for ungrateful Sylvia,
She is leaving me for another lover.

The pleasure of love lasts only a moment,
The pain of love lasts a lifetime.

“As long as this water will run gently
Towards this brook which borders the meadow,

I will love you”, Sylvia told me repeatedly.
The water still runs, but she has changed.

The pleasure of love lasts only a moment,
The pain of love lasts a lifetime.

Here it is again, with Joan Collins.   I really can’t choose between them. Do you have a favourite?

And here is a true French chanteuse… Mireille Mathieu, hailed in the French press as the successor to Édith Piaf.
