How Walmart Helped Make the Newtown Shooter’s AR-15 the Most Popular Assault Weapon in America

Guns Out of Stock at Wal-Mart as Magazine Prices Surge on

Wal-Mart has been subject to criticism by numerous groups and individuals. Among these are labor unions, community groups, grassroots organizations, religious organizations, environmental groups and Wal-Mart customers. They have protested against Wal-Mart, the company’s policies and business practices, including charges of racial and gender discrimination. Other areas of criticism include the corporation’s foreign product sourcing, treatment of product suppliers, environmental practices, the use of public subsidies, and the company’s security policies.[4] Wal-Mart denies doing anything wrong and maintains that low prices are the result of efficiency. from Wikipedia

5e28357847ea92098859c30c02daThe new Hamilton location is one of 73 projects… that will add 4.6 million square feet of retail space to Walmart’s operations…  Costing more than $750 million, the projects will create more than 14,000 store, trade and construction jobs. Included in these projects are 39 former Zellers stores where all employees were laid off.

This new Hamilton Wal-Mart is 89,000 square feet and will offer a full line of groceries including a bakery, a deli, meat and dairy products, fresh produce, electronics, home decor and apparel. Convenience services include a pharmacy, photo centre, connection centre for wireless services, Regal Nails nail salon, and Western Union… The Hamilton Centre Wal-Mart store employs 230 associates. To fill these positions, Wal-Mart received 3,000 applications for roles such as cashiers, sales associates and other hourly positions… As a greeting to the community, the new store will donate $5,000 to community organizations.

WOW! Two hundred and thirty mostly part-time, minimum wage employees for an 89,000 square foot retail operation, AND a $5,000 contribution!  Trade and construction jobs are, of course, short-term!  But aren’t we fortunate!

I do not shop at Wal-Mart. The personal boycott is inconvenient and I am probably paying more for many items. But I will not shop at Wal-Mart!

And while we are on the topic, I call your attention to these You Tube videos…

There are many more if you feel strong enough or curious enough link through YouTube to People of Wal-Mart.  I was actually looking for information about employee benefits and their labour practices. Ha!

Wouldn’t it be great to hear that Wal-Mart is DOWNsizing because too many people have chosen to do their shopping elsewhere!
