Mitt Romney Wonders Why Ann Romney’s Airplane Windows Don’t Roll Down

The Onion makes up outrageous stories and treats them as serious news. If I saw this article out of context, I would immediately believe it to be another of their clever… and mean-spirited… spoofs!

“I appreciate the fact that she is on the ground, safe and sound. And I don’t think she knows just how worried some of us were,” he said, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“When you have a fire in an aircraft, there’s no place to go, exactly, there’s no — and you can’t find any oxygen from outside the aircraft to get in the aircraft, because the windows don’t open. I don’t know why they don’t do that. It’s a real problem. So it’s very dangerous. And she was choking and rubbing her eyes. Fortunately, there was enough oxygen for the pilot and copilot to make a safe landing in Denver. But she’s safe and sound.”

Is the story credible?

I found it on the Huffington Post website and they have published many articles quite critical of the Republican candidate. But I have never found an actual hoax there… and Ann Romney’s plane did make an emergency landing. There are many other references to it online.

Mr. and Mrs. Romney must have been quite upset over this dangerous situation. One can only hope that Romney was overwhelmed with emotion, utterly fatigued, and confused by his own jet lag when he made the statement.

It must be incredibly stressful to have your every word recorded and published. On the other hand, he may have a wicked sense of humour that has gone unrecognized so far! Was he “pulling our leg”? It would be reassuring to be able to think so!
