Yes, it is Friday the Thirteenth again! Tomorrow I will get back to more “serious” concerns.
According to the Hamilton Spectator, “Police estimate that by mid-morning, about 120,000 people, many on motorcycles, had descended on the town on the shores of Lake Erie, to take part in the last BikeFest of the year. Const. Ed Sanchuk of the Norfolk Ontario Provincial Police says hundreds of motorcycles are continuing to roll into town.”
I blogged about the motorcycle rallies at Port Dover in the spring. To-day’s will probably be much larger. The Board of Commerce of any city, let alone a very small town, would give their eye teeth for the publicity and tourist dollars that this generates at least once a year… apparently the diehards even come in the winter. In Port Dover, it just devloped on its own, a grass roots phenomenon that started in 1981 with a small group of friends. The town has made a very good job of organizing their own needs around this influx of strangers, and of making them feel welcome.
