The story about the emperor’s new clothes has always been a favourite of mine. The wisdom implicit in Hans Christian Andersen’s 1837 story has never been more relevant.
Yesterday an ad appeared in the New York Times appealing to Catholics to admit the insanity of church policies and pronouncements on reproductive rights and sexual practices… especially as they affect law making, election decisions, and the private behaviour of people both within and outside the church.
What is shocking to me is not only the boldness of the ad, but that it has taken so long to happen. It is time for all of us to speak out… like the courageous child in Anderson’s story… against complacency and hypocrisy wherever we find it.
